Because I have received a grant from the Foundation for Music-based Learning to bring music and movement and teacher education to our local Head Start center, I no longer have the time to offer new Musikgarten classes in the MusicSeeds studio. Please check www.musikgarten.org for a class near you.
MUSICAL CYCLE OF SEASONS, Age 3.5 – 5 year
The Cycle of Seasons draws its central themes from our amazing world of nature; it aims to bring the family into joyful music, movement, and environmental experiences for everyday life. Each 15-week term of 45-minute classes encourages informal, non-performance-oriented music-making. Classes are designed to build attention and self-expression through singing, chanting, purposeful movement, focused listening, musical games, exploration of musical instruments, and storytelling—all in an age-appropriate, playful atmosphere. Primary musical goals are establishing beat competency and nurturing the singing voice in a positive, relaxed manner.
Parents or caregivers take part in the closing 15 minutes of each class period, or may choose to remain throughout the class. Each 15-week session will include a songbook, listening CDs, home suggestions, an appropriate instrument—and good times for all!
MUSICMAKERS HOME/MUSICMAKERS WORLD ages 4.5 – 7 years
Building increasing musical skills and independence, this Musikgarten program employs many “neighborhoods” in the natural environment and around the globe to inspire songs, games, dances, and playful learning of musical concepts. Exploration of different musical instruments, the language of pitch and rhythm, increased repertoire of dramatic movement, and enhancement of musical confidence are goals of these four 15-week sequential terms of 75-minute classes. Developments in Music Learning Theory are the foundation of this Musikgarten series, fostering the listening and musically expressive skills of young children. Students experience the joy of making music, preparing for further group or private instructi
MUSICMAKERS AT THE KEYBOARD, ages 6.5 – 9 years
This program capitalizes on the child’s love for making music with other children, offering joyful opportunities for building keyboard skills—along with singing, dancing, drumming, ensemble playing, writing and reading music. Most students will have completed Kindermusik®/Young Child or Musikgarten®/World. After 4 to 6 sequential terms of 75-minute group keyboard classes, students are equipped with the aural, music-reading, and technical skills to be successful in continued private study of piano or other instruments. Families either observe in class or share in the final 15 minutes of each week’s session. Home piano or keyboard is required. [Click on the "instrumental" button for more complete information.]
